We’ve had an eventful and in many ways highly successful year. The issues were brought to the attention of politicians, the public are beginning to be more aware of what kids stand to lose and how that will affect all of us, and the Ofcom review was a major step forward which we suspect would not have happened so soon without the constant pressure of SKTV and its allies.

We have tried to keep you in touch with the issues, through the website, these newsletters and our press coverage. And we have ensured that at every turn and each event the SKTV position is represented.

We are more than a self-interest group. We represent the coming-together of concerned industry professionals, academics and cultural campaigners who care about kids and provision for them, and parents who have seen the problem and back our route to a solution.

Our position throughout has been that if the industry declines, kids will suffer – a lack of choice and a lack of quality – and they will lose the culturally specific programming which holds us all together, which will have long term affects on the whole of society. Apart from anything else kids have the right to their own media – to stories about themselves and what matters to them. They are entitled and should be empowered.

We have done a lot this year but there is a lot more to do and we have to keep the pressure up. But we have no income other than donations from supporters. Save Kids’ TV has no paid employees. Everyone gives their time for free. But there are inevitably administrative costs. We also aspire to a more efficient and co-ordinated PR campaign and professional lobbying advice. The Save Kids’ TV proposition submitted to Ofcom benefitted from professional input which we were able to fund through supporter generosity. We need to be able to take more initiatives of this nature.

Donations, however small, would be very welcome. You can donate by sending a cheque made out to “Save Kids’ TV” to:
