Recently, ITV made a decision that will change their children’s output forever. They have decided to axe their Children’s Production unit. This means that popular UK shows like Art Attack, My Parents Are Aliens, How 2, Jungle Run etc will no longer be made.
OFCOM, the TV regulators, look very likely to ban all Junk Food ads before 9 PM, meaning that there’ll be no more UK produced programming on ITV simply because it doesn’t make money anymore.
I grew up with shows that made me laugh & appealed to me as a child in the UK at that time (Zzzap!, Mike & Angelo, Fun House, My Parents Are Aliens etc). I noticed that there was a slow but steady decline in quality since the Millennium (Loss of in-vision presenters etc). But ITV were still making some high quality shows (SM: TV, My Parents Are Aliens, Harry Hill’s Shark Infested Custard, How 2, etc). However, a whole generation of children could grow up without their own programs, but instead heavily commercial imports. This is something that cannot happen.
