I have been in so many children’s programmes in my career, including; Skippy The Bush Kangaroo, Brendan Chase, Seal Morning, Woof, Out Of Sight and Bernard’s Watch.  The quality of writing, directing and production values in children’s drama was always very high, higher in many ways than in adult drama, as children are a much more critical audience.  The importance of drama for children is that it introduces them to great stories, sometimes great classics, which they may not encounter in any other way.  Children love a good story, well told and, in my view, cartoons do not engage them in the same way.  All of the dramas that I was in had big audiences and isn’t this what TV companies are always chasing?  I feel that without drama we are letting down our children and our children’s children.  Remember, today’s children are tomorrow’s adult audience.

Liza Goddard has appeared in many television productions, as well as the children’s series mentioned above.  They include Take Three Girls, The BrothersTales Of The UnexpectedBergeracLiza’s CountryThat’s Love and Wild West, with Dawn French and Catherine Tate. Her theatre work includes touring, Chichester and the West End.  She has appeared in the two films: Shostakovitch and Wagner.

Liza will be the Fairy Godmother in Pantomime this Christmas.
